While creating a digital collection of dystopian books, I learned many skills that could be used in the everyday life of a student. I found many books that I would like to read and I learned more about what a dystopian society looks like. This encouraged me to reflect upon my own life and the current state of society. I learned a lot about the technical side of making the collection itself. I never realized how easy it is to look for a book in the DSA Media Center. I can look for one at home, and I can come in the next day to check it out with ease. I also learned how to add URLs to a collection. By adding a book trailer, I can suggest a book that might not be in the DSA library. I could use the technology skills I learned to help me become a better person. If I read books that help me expand my knowledge of the world around me, I will be able to do something to make a change. Being aware of our surroundings will help an individual, such as myself, as well as the society we live in.
Creating a nonfiction collection taught me a great deal about online resources. There are simple and quick ways to find trustworthy information on the web. I got a chance to explore some of the databases that I have overlooked or disregarded. With some practice, they are fairly easy to use. I will use the skills I obtained during this project to aid my success in school. When I am doing a research project, I can create a collection to keep track of the books and websites I need to read and the books that I need to find outside of the library.
In making a playlist and bookmark for The Poet X, I gained a lot of knowledge that I can utilize as a media assistant as well as knowledge that I can use in my other classes. I learned more about Google Drawings by working to create the bookmark. I was also able to explore how features as simple as a font or colors can change the way a viewer perceives a work of art. Making the QR code was very simple and quick. I will definitely use this method in the future when I want to share a link to a website with a lot of people.
This assignment helped me learn more about Google Slides. I got a chance to explore the transitions and effects that can make a presentation into a video. I learned about the many of the copyright free resources that are available to me. I will continue to use these resources throughout my schooling and as I enter the workforce. I learned a lot about intellectual property in general. I will carry this knowledge with me throughout the rest of my schooling and into the workforce so that I can be sure that I am giving creators the credit they deserve.
